Following last year鈥檚 requirement that all cigarette products be printed with electronic signs, the UAE鈥檚 Federal Revenue Service announced that from March 1, 2020, the UAE will ban the import of any type of waterpipe or e-cigarette without electronic signs.
In October 2017, the UAE imposed a consumption tax on commodities harmful to health such as carbonated drinks, energy drinks and tobacco products. From November 1, 2019, e-cigarettes, hookahs and sugar-sweetened beverages will also be included in the scope of consumption tax. The collection of excise taxes on tobacco products is achieved through the "Tobacco and Tobacco Products Labeling Program".
